FAQ

Gynaecology is a branch of medicine that deals with the health of a woman’s reproductive system, such as the vagina, uterus and ovaries. Some common conditions faced include ovarian cysts, endometriosis and menstrual disorders.

At ACRM, we believe that regardless of age, every woman deserves specialised and unique gynaecological care for her reproductive health.

We provide a range of screening and diagnostic services, including HPV screening and vaccination, cervical cancer screening, birth control and minimally invasive surgery.

You should make seeing a gynaecologist as part of your annual health checkups, but if you experience the following symptoms, please visit your gynae as soon as possible.

  • Painful periods, especially if they are more intense than usual
  • Unexpected vaginal bleeding between periods or post-menopause
  • Bumps and blisters around your vagina
  • Vaginal odour
  • Pain during sex
  • Urinary incontinence
  • Low libido

Individuals with multiple sex partners are also encouraged to schedule regular gynae visits to prevent HPV infection.

Here are some things to take note of if you have an appointment with your gynae:

  • Do not schedule an appointment on your period
  • Try to hold off pelvic grooming till after your appointment as depending on the hair removal method, it can cause inflammation
  • Do not douche
  • Avoid sexual intercourse and vaginal lubrication two days before your appointment, especially if you have a pelvic exam
  • Keep track of your menstrual cycle
  • Bring your medical records
  • Come with a list of questions — your gynae is here to answer any questions or doubts you have. Some common topics covered during first consultation include birth control options, testing for STIs and period or hormonal issues.
  • If you’re above 21 and sexually active, your provider will likely perform a pelvic exam and/or Pap smear for you.
  • Be prepared to be asked questions based on your medical history and lifestyle, including some very personal ones such as your period and sex life. Be honest as possible so your doctor can provide you with the best care.
  • Note down the first day of your last period
  • Come prepared with information about your personal and family’s health history.
  • Do not be nervous!
